Off-topic (and R-rated?)

Warning: this is completely unrelated to Wimbledon or actual tennis.

WordPress has this feature that allows me to see what people searched to get to my blog. I’m just going to post the “Best of” and maybe someone can come out and say they were the ones that searched such thing. It will be fun, I promise.

  • doubles tennis players kissing
  • wimbledon pretty and ugly controversy
  • azarenka bitch
  • azarenka fucking
  • vika hot
  • gisela dulko crotch
  • gisela’s clit
  • tennis slut
  • gasgay tennis player
  • danish tenis player hot falow down
  • samantha stosur interviews about gay

So, overall, YOU STAY CLASSY, FIERCE TENNIS READERS.

P.S. The most searched term is “Fierce Tennis”. How hard can it be to bookmark the blog or something, eh? :P

Is it just me or is watching Lena win the best thing ever?

44

Even though I’ll probably be a hopelessly devoted Elena Dementieva fan until the end of days, I’m not terribly excited about the semis. I’ll just focus on the good things so far. Like how she managed to not choke up a cakedraw like she always does. And how she miraculously defended her semifinal points. I’m just very proud of her and I think it’s already a win making this far. Congrats, Lena!

Okay, from her presser:

Q. People might be expecting an all‑Williams final. Do you think we can have an all‑Russian final instead?

ELENA DEMENTIEVA: Can we play just two finals instead?

Best idea ever? And we can give each winner a trophy. Come on, you guys. I believe this idea should be taken in consideration and also mine of doing a huge Natinal Tournament in Moscow — mandatory for the Russians.

1 1 Safina, Dinara 27/04/86 RUS 9801 19
4 4 Dementieva, Elena 15/10/81 RUS 6591 21
5 5 Kuznetsova, Svetlana 27/06/85 RUS 6191 19
7 7 Zvonareva, Vera 07/09/84 RUS 5360 24
10 10 Petrova, Nadia 08/06/82 RUS 3520 25
29 30 Pavlyuchenkova, Anastasia 03/07/91 RUS 1708 21
30 31 Chakvetadze, Anna 05/03/87 RUS 1681 21
31 26 Kleybanova, Alisa 15/07/89 RUS 1665 22

37 38 Vesnina, Elena 01/08/86 RUS 1399 22
46 46 Makarova, Ekaterina 07/06/88 RUS 1295 20
49 52 Dushevina, Vera 06/10/86 RUS 1279 22
59 58 Kirilenko, Maria 25/01/87 RUS 1008 25
60 59 Sharapova, Maria 19/04/87 RUS 990 12
70 68 Kudryavtseva, Alla 03/11/87 RUS 929 27
117 118 Diatchenko, Vitalia 02/08/90 RUS 569 16
121 122 Rodina, Evgeniya 04/02/89 RUS 548 21

The best 16 players from Russia in four groups, four players each. EPIC TOURNEY IT WOULD BE. It could be only two groups but then we would leave out Lena V., Kiri and Sharapova. I don’t know if people would like that in, you know, my head.

Yes, you can tell I have too much time in my hands when I come up with insane shit like that. But, eh, I own a blog called “Fierce Tennis”, so what else is new?

YOU STAY CLASSY, WIMBY

I was just looking for cute pictures of Lena giggling/celebrating her SECOND SEMIFINAL IN A ROW (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and I see this:

43

Why-oh-why do I feel like we should expect crotch pictures of the players getting out of cars next year? I do not want to see athletes à la Britney Spears, tyvm, photographers. I know this must sound odd and all but I’m on this for the, you know, tennis (*GASP!*).

No, *I* am the biggest diva

Vika-Serena: frankly, the match I was the most excited about today. Even though I wanted badly for Vika to win, my hopes were next to none (srsly, she dropped a set to Petrova). I was all about the entertainment and the drama only the WTA can provide.

41

Pictures of Vika being her own dramatic self. I love it. I was expecting more tantrums and all. Some loud swearing, bitching at the line judges, maybe even a racquet break. I was slightly disappointed she wasn’t as bratty as possible. In her post-match interview, she said Serena really showed her unbeatable side today — which I don’t think it’s that true. Sure, Serena was serving very well and pounding on the ball but Vika showed her own weakness. Double faults at bad moments and being broken back at 3-2 after just getting the lead. Well, kid is 19, I think she will improve. I’ll just say that two Slam QFs in a row is amazing.

And I realize I make fun of her brattiness and all but I don’t think anyone can say she is a sore loser. Right after losing 2 and 3, there she was — smiling and chatting with Serena. Good job, girl. *thumbs up*

42

I don’t remember if I have or haven’t talked about Serena’s white overcoat here until now? I LOVE IT. It looks straight out of an Antonioni movie. V. pretty, ReRe. I approve. And she has been pretty funny in the pressers’ this year?

I mean, I use some of my trophies for makeup brushes, so, you know, maybe I’ll just take a step back and be like, Hmm. Take all the makeup brushes out and really appreciate every title and every trophy.

Oh, Serena, I hope you’re not getting those holy things rusty or something, gurl.

Wimbledon says “Go Make Me a Sandwich, Bitch!”*

*This was written by a good friend of mine, Ivy. I told her if she wrote an article blasting the sexism regarding Wimbledon organizers (admitted by them), I’d gladly post it here. So there you go, enjoy the read.

40Hey, remember in 2005, when there was all that controversy about Wimbledon refusing to pay equal prize money to men and women? And then we all LOL’ed when the women’s final was longer than the men’s final?

Yes, quite a few of the arguments were legit. Women DON’T play 5-sets and MAY not have the depth of the men’s draw (But seriously? Andy Roddick made slam finals. UR POINT IS MOOT. LOL). But that’s not the point. Equal prize money is a principle, validating men and women as equals. Because here’s the truth: women work just as hard as men to compete at a professional level, incur the same costs as men on the tour, and bring in just as much tournament revenue through star power as the men. So why not equal prize money?

Then Wimbledon finally acquiesced in 2007 and we all said “Yay! Sexism is over! Whoo Margaret Thatcher!” (Because it’s England, bitches.)

So, imagine my surprise when I noticed that only women deemed “attractive” by the Wimbledon organizers were being put on Centre Court. At first I was like, “Woah, been watching way too many specials on The History Channel about the Kennedy assassination.” But then I realized, Wimbledon is a sexist ponce that deserves to get called out on its shit.

The two big matches that had people (i.e. me) bitching? Caroline Wozniacki [9] vs Maria Kirilenko and Victoria Azarenka [8] vs Sorana Cirstea [28]. Why the bitching?

· Compared to the men’s seeds on CC (with the single exception of Marin Cilic), these girls were seeded too low/didn’t have the accomplishments to play on CC

· On the day that Caro was playing, DEFENDING CHAMPION Venus was playing on Court 1, World No.1 Safina was playing on Court 2, and 2009 French Open Champion Kuznetsova was playing on Court 3.

· On the day that Azarenka was playing, World No.4 and 2008 Wimbledon semifinalist Elena Dementieva was on Court 1, World No.2 and the infamous Serena Williams was on Court 2. FFS, even Zvonereva [7] vs. Razzano [26] were on Court 18, when BOTH women were seeded higher than the Centre Court match.

· Some other fun facts. During the first week, Dinara Safina did not play on Centre Court. Neither did Elena Dementieva nor Svetlana Kuznetsova. Venus played on Centre Court once, and Serena twice (out of three times, which isn’t a huge injustice.)

I guess you could say I was fairly pissed off that people who actually merited CC were not getting it.

a) It’s outrageous that women are judged on their looks and NOT on their merit.

b) It’s outrageous that men are judged on merit but not women.

Seriously? If the “pretty people up front, ugly people in the back” rule applied to the men’s side, Radek Stepanek would be bloody playing underground in the Subway!

I did a little investigative digging (basically, looking at the schedule of play on wimbledon.org) and noticed that on Centre Court and Court 1, the WTA matches: ATP matches ratio was 6:13 and 11:12 respectively. Not only are women getting on the big stage less, but the ones who DO are the ones who look the best, NOT the ones who have earned it.

The icing on top of the cake was when a Wimbledon representative actually CAME OUT and said that looks do matter in determining who gets Centre Court. Thanks, you asshat. My suspicions were confirmed that Wimbledon is not only sexist, but damn stupid as well. Cheers xx

BÁRBARA’S NOTE: I wish this blog had a less stupid name so the article would look less out of place. Sry bb.

Match of the day

38

This is why five-setters win at life. Mandy‘s match against Stan was beyond entertaining. I’m sure you can read some very long report praising Mandy anywhere else like the Wimbledon website and such — I’ll just say it was a victory for the fans. Look at that picture, Henman Hill (or Murray Mound, whatever) is full. People that don’t have tickets for CC are seating there at open air at 10 pm to watch tennis. I, personally, want Mandy to take the whole thing. Hell, Rafa isn’t playing and I don’t have any high hopes for Juanqui. I like seeing crowds happy (most of the time). A British champion would make a beautiful day at Wimbledon and in all London.

Now, onto Muzzah’s chances of taking the crown. I think a tough match like this is important for building up his mental side during the tournament. Specially an unique one like this one with the roof closed and all. Seriously, IMPORTANT ROOF IS IMPORTANT. I had to mention that. Just ask @Wimbledon. I was surprised they didn’t manage to put “roof” in Twitter’s Trending Topics. I think Murray can take out Federer, but oh boy, I don’t want to jinx him. That’s the British press’ job!

And about the shallow part of the match: Kim‘s white blazer is very cute, innit?

39

Actually, white blazer, black t-shirt and short denim shorts? I give the whole outfit an A+.

P.S.  I tried to make Judy out of focus in the picture…….. it didn’t work.

I'll just take a nap for a second…

37

LOL, oh Vika, honestly, I don’t even know. She really outdone herself today in number of tantrums. Oh well. A win is a win, eh?

Some bits from her presser:

Q. Any reaction to the FHM shooting?

VICTORIA AZARENKA: My reactions?

Q. Any reactions?

VICTORIA AZARENKA: I think it was nice for the shoot, for me. I enjoyed doing it. I don’t know if people liked it or not. I didn’t really hear many critics. I should maybe read some.

Someone should link Vika to my blog so she would read my critics. I think that would amusing and, you know, slightly frightening.

Q. When you shook the linesperson’s hand, did you say thank you?

VICTORIA AZARENKA: Yeah.

Q. What was the response?

VICTORIA AZARENKA: Nothing.

Q. So to clarify, did you apologize later or not?

VICTORIA AZARENKA: No. Well, I didn’t go over and say, “I’m so sorry.”

Aaaahhh, such a bitch. I love it.

Anyway, Vika plays Serena tomorrow second on the CC for a spot in the semifinals. I don’t really have to tell who I’m cheering for, do I? XD

Tennis WAGs ftw

After doing some very interesting research on Rebecca Hewitt (née Cartwright), I found out a few interesting facts I need to share.

One, what most people know (but I didn’t) was that she used to be on the popular Australian soap Home and Away. Two, she won the aussie Dancing With The Stars in 2004. But for me, the third and most interesting one, was that Rebecca release an album in 2003.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8VZdBKupgI]

The video above is a single of her self-titled album called “All Seats Taken”. It was in the Top 10 down under. It’s a must watch music video. And when I say that, I really mean it’s a LOLOLOLOLOLOL ZOMGGG THAT’S THE MOST RIDICULOUS SHIT I’VE EVER SEEN HOW ON EARTH DID PEOPLE BUY THAT must watch.

You’re welcome.

Another bump?

36

Someone should lay off the chocolate cake. Just kiiiiidding, Dina. ♥ Ily, you’re adorable. Amazing comeback that was. Keep on winning, number one. If I won’t get my Caro-Vika final, at least get me something Russian.

It's gonna be a bumpy ride

More LAWLZ from the Sabine-Caro bump.

35

You can just hear Caro going in her head “BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH, pls”. I want as many pictures of “the bump” as possible.

Q. Seemed to be an instant where you almost bumped at net at the changeover. What happened there?

SABINE LISICKI: You know, I don’t know. We’ve been changing the sides all the time, you know, the whole match. I was always passing on the left side and she was passing on the right side. So, I don’t know. She all of a sudden went to the side I was passing all the time, and we just bumped each other.

But, I mean, there’s no big deal for me.

Q. You were a little bit unhappy. You had a quick word with the umpire.

SABINE LISICKI: Me?

Q. Yes.

SABINE LISICKI: No, it was her. She was discussing with him. I was just focusing for the next game.

O snap, you guys. She blames Caro. O SNAP. Someone should have asked if she thought they were still friends — you know, for the drama. Goodness knows how much the British press enjoys a bitch fight.

And because everything gets funnier when gif-ed:bump

Fierce Tennis, you say?

Question: What is this awesome piece of the interwebs?

Answer: I have tried and failed several times to keep blogs up. Why? Because I don’t like doing serious journalism unless there’s money showing up in my bank account — and there wasn’t. This blog will have no interest in being impartial or, you know, actually talking about the sport (ok, maybe from time to time). There are tons of other blogs (and news websites) that do this job pretty well already. Here we will discuss the shallow part: the outfits, the gossip, the outrages and who Fernando Verdasco is currently dating.
