The good, the bad and the ugly

E.g. of a good campaign: Looking For A Hero?

The WTA’s campaign gets a little off-track with their recent interviews, loses its focus, even. But no one can deny it’s entertaining. They do what should have been done a while ago — they get personal with the tour. Even if the campaign’s goal seems to be mystify the players and their ~*special powers*~, we’re equally interested in their “human” side. That’s what their two latest videos, Life Without Tennis and Players’ Most Extravagant Purchases, show.

The most interesting aspect of the video is that we find out that Aravane Rezaï would like to be either an actress or astrophysics (sic) if she wasn’t a tennis player. Astrophysics. Yes, astrophysics. And Severine Bremond would like to be a singer. Only we don’t hear her sing. Coolies.

Now, this, this is my favourite one:

What have all the players bought? Cars. Fast, expensive, convertible cars. I’m amused by the players describing their cars’ technical details and such while the interviewer just goes “Fast?”. Yes, fast, dude. I would probably make a question as dumb as that one like “So, it drives, eh?”. The only girl that actually bought something, you know, girly was Vika. Hermès bag that she’s been wanting for three years. I think this means she’d been wanting a Hermès bag for three years, not that she bought a bag from seasons ago. Just thought I’d clarify that. And of course, as usual, Stosur and Stubbs provide hilarious moments.

And example of bad, very very bad campaign, you ask? L.A. Women’s Tennis ChampionshipsSave The Grunt. I even feel secondhand embarrassment.

  1. For all the talk about Vika being a bitch, the jeep thing convinced me Vezzy wears the pants in their relationship.

A JEEP, Bárbara.Mitsubishi Outlander Excel. BIG CAR. If she were a man, ppl would say she was compensating for something.

    ~*I love them soooo.*~

As for actual the subject of campaigns, I wish they’d get back to that “special powers”/”what else are you really good at” question. I remember liking some of the answers.

  2. I think Vika can be a bitch on court but she seems like a nice girl off-court. And the idea of Lena V. (rofl, VEZZY? Do I even want to know???) wearing the pants is amusing.

Honestly, I know nothing about cars. Like… nothing AT ALL. I’m going to stick to talking about tennis or bags. Both, if possible.

I like these extremely random questions. Even if they have nothing to do with the campaign.

  3. Oh Aleks, what a cutie. And could V be even more less like her sister FFS? One buys an upgrade of her 10 year old car, the other buys an apartment in Paris. And what does Vika say she bought? Can’t fuckin’ understand her, lol

  4. Haha! These’re awesome – Vesnina in an Outlander, Venus’ car being a “bad investment”, lol!

Stosur and Stubbs – they are so Australian, it’s hilarious.

And…I totally hate that Serena can do that. I want to impulsively be able to buy an apartment in Paris. In fact, I’d settle for a non-impulsive purchase, even.

  5. I really like Coin’s answer in the first one. Not that it’s somewhat unrealistic or anything…

I just want to go and buy an apartment in Paris too!
And since these videos I love Stosur and Stubbs, they are just too funny.

  6. Sammy and Renne are so Aussie, I expect them to crack out a can of Foster’s everytime they talk

Vika’s like the Hulk, she’s girly-girl,sweet as candy off caught but play against her in tennis and she’ll kill you seven way’s before you hit the ground.

Some of those girls have got such thick accents

Fierce Tennis, you say?

Question: What is this awesome piece of the interwebs?

Answer: I have tried and failed several times to keep blogs up. Why? Because I don’t like doing serious journalism unless there’s money showing up in my bank account — and there wasn’t. This blog will have no interest in being impartial or, you know, actually talking about the sport (ok, maybe from time to time). There are tons of other blogs (and news websites) that do this job pretty well already. Here we will discuss the shallow part: the outfits, the gossip, the outrages and who Fernando Verdasco is currently dating.
