Ladies?

If you follow my twitter, you know how the prospect of the Stanford quarterfinals had me staring lovingly at the draw.

The battle of big serves and massive forehands: Samantha Stosur x Yanina Wickmayer
Dear lord, Nike, what were you thinking?: Marion Bartoli x Victoria Azarenka
Cat-and-mouse tennis:
Agnieszka Radwanska x Maria Kirilenko
And, of course, the one big Russia mess:
Maria Sharapova x Elena Dementieva

Basically, any final that can come out of this that isn’t Bartoli-Sharapova will have me ecstatic. Given the fact the odds are on my side, I am already ecstatic. Gimme gimme gimme.

I recommend everyone to tune in this afternoon to watch some damn good tennis. And, if you like, contact TennisTV to make sure they know they’re asses for not airing the match of the number one seed tonight. How dare they, deny us Sam and Wicky.

Daniela Hantuchova: the life ruiner

She ruins people’s lives!!!!

You know, I’m sure Daniela is a very nice girl. In fact, I’ve heard from from a friend who has interviewed her that she’s a doll. Polite, calm girl. So I ask myself, what is such a nice girl doing ruining people’s lives? Why must she cockblock all epic duos in life? And, most importantly, why does she hate me?

It all started a while ago with the Sports Illustrated shoot with Maria Kirilenko, Tatiana Golovin and The Life Ruiner. I was pretty excited about this line-up. I love Kiri. I love Tati. They both make me laugh when trying to be hot. They make me go ‘LOLLL THIS SPORT U GUISE ♥’ and I like going ‘LOLLL THIS SPORT U GUISE ♥’. I was expecting a picture of them together.

But I got this.

Here, let me show you where it all went wrong:

But I got over that. You know, I’m sure she wasn’t like ‘Hey, let me stand between Kiri and Tati and ruin all possible Russian lolz that could happen to make Fierce Tennis miserable’. Like, she wasn’t, was she?

Time passed. There were other Russian lolz to care about. It was announced, in Stanford, that Sharapova would play doubles with Wicky. That was one big Russian lolz. I was excited. I posted about it. But then Wicky tweeted that Wickypova wouldn’t happen. My heart was broken. What was I supposed to do with my life?

Today the Stanford doubles draw came out. Why should I care? There was no Team Angry Giants. But then something caught my attention, and by something I mean people going ‘OMG!!!!!!!!’ on my Ttwitter timeline. Fierce Tennis‘ official girlcrush, Victoria Azarenka, would play doubles with Kiri. Finally! Another doubles team I could support. And who did they drew on the first round? Wicky (!!!!!) and….. Daniela Hantuchova.

I don’t think I need to get into how epic it would have been Wickypova playing against Vika/Kiri. I’m sure you’ll be able to tell by the amount of weeping I’ve done. Hint: A LOT. Daniela Hantuchova, you’re playing with fire here. Ask Federer how it feels to be on my shit list. Awful, I’ll bet he says. My sources tell him he cries himself to sleep every night because of it. Yeah, girl, I can be a bully.

Pretty clay outfits I still love

The blue from Queen’s + the green from the grass + Rafa’s lovely geometrical shirt = my heart swooning. Unless you guys know how I dress (and you probably don’t, thank god), you can’t fully understand this. But let me just say, I’m very OCD regarding colours. I like matching the tiniest details: it’s my matchy-matchy© style. And, guyyyyyys, look at all the matchy-matchy going on. SIGH.

BE STIL MY SHALLOW NOT-SO-FASHIONABLE HEART.

Meanwhile, Masha isn’t looking so bad either. How to fancy up an outfit: use a pretty jacket.

Swoon, heart in pupils, etc.

I still want to buy that dress badly and I probably will once I find the matching jacket online. Amazing, Masha, amazing.

TGIF.

Hello, weekend. I love you, weekend.

Tomorrow’s order of play has potential. Potential being the magical word — means that it can be awesome, but since today the Tennis Gods blessed me, tomorrow they’ll probably kick my ass. Like stealing a child’s candy. The candy being fun tennis and the child being, obviously, me. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Picture 7

The day on Chatrier starts with Serena versus Pavs. It will probably be an easy win for Serena but I’m sure lots of people will have a great time watching how well Pavs hits the ball. SPOILER: She hits it quite well. (Serena ain’t that bad either.)

After that, we have the continuation of the drrrrrama. Rezai and Petrova stopped play tonight at 7 all on the third for lack of light. Both players had to save match points. Bring. It. Or, like the French would nicely put it: BOOOOOOOOO.

Two zzzz-wothy matches after that one: Nole-Hanescu and Rafa-Hewitt (if their last year’s encounter here is anything to go by, at least).

And then, DUN DUN DUN, what will probably be low-quality tennis but, boy, do we want that low-quality tennis: Henin-Sharapova. Henin recently said that her embarrassing defeat to Masha in the AO final in 2008 felt like ages ago. Masha‘s response? ‘Actually, it feels like it was yesterday’. In the same interview, she was critical of the players that celebrate and scream after every point won, even when it was caused by the opponent’s error. Sounds like someone? (Besides herself. And Ana.)  MY SPORT, U GUISE: I love it so.

We also have some other matches on the lesser courts but the only one I’m sort of interested in is Wicky-Hantuchova. I imagine it will go the Slovakian’s way, Wicky is still recuperating from her elbow injury. And, in case you’re wondering how her elbow is doing, she is tired but Wicky is applying ice.

I’m excited. I’ll get popcorn, ice cream and swear at the TV. Be sure to check ze twitter for some live spamming coverage.

P.S. The ATP matches are boring to me, the WTA ones are AWESOME. I’m a box full of surprises, ain’t I.

Upset of the day: Battle of the Marias

59316467

Q. How would you describe your sense of confidence right now?

MARIA SHARAPOVA: Uhm, well, I’m leaving on Monday of the first week, so that explains a lot.

On the first Rod Laver Arena match of the tournament, Maria Kirilenko defeated former champion Maria Sharapova in 3 hours and 22 minutes. It was hardly what one would call a quality match: Sharapova alone had 77 unforced errors and 11 double faults. In the end, it was exciting, it was an upset, everyone likes seeing seeds falling, but, most importantly, it was nice to Kiri (who had a terrible season last year) start this one with such a good kick. Kuddos, tiny Kiri.

Now, there’s something I need to talk before I go in the match (do I ever do that?): Sharapova’s dress. I’ll miss it. It’s a shame it’s leaving so early. I do agree with most of you that think it’s over the top — it is. But the thing is, in the last few seasons, “tennis fashion” should have been stripped of the word “fashion”. It was stuck in the commonplace so badly that all we had was revamped colours for athletic outfits. Now, this? (Whatever this is.) Is a proper design. With multilayers (maybe a little less colour would have been ace) and work. Kiri seems to agree it’s a good dress.

Q. What did you think of Maria’s outfit or costume? Do you ever pay attention to things like that?

MARIA KIRILENKO: It was blue, I think, like POWERade. I mean, yeah, what can I say? Was good dress. She always have a nice dresses. I think I always have a nice dresses, as well.

Was good dress. Just what I said. Shame she’s colourblind.

Q. Is it possible I read on your lips vamos sometimes when you do a point, or not?

MARIA KIRILENKO: Yes, because I’m practicing in Spain, in Valencia, and all the guys, coaches, they always saying vamos. That’s why I think say instead of say, Come on, I said, Vamos.

Bless. (Now this is the part where someone throws rocks me at me for being so biased — when Sharapova screams ‘Vamos’, it’s annoying. When Kiri does it, it’s ‘Look how cute bb Kiri! *pat pat* Here, Kiri, have a cookie!’)

TENNIS-OPEN/ FBL-ENG-PR-WIGAN-ARSENAL

Q. You put your fingers to your lips late in the match. Was that to get the crowd to quieten down?

MARIA KIRILENKO: It’s unbelievable. I got so many questions in the locker room, in the players’ lounge. What did you do? What does it mean? I don’t know. Everyone can think what does that mean.

Normally, it was for me actually, that everything is calm, you know. Because, you know, of course it’s a great win, but it’s only the first round I pass. It’s nothing big happens actually.

What?

Q. Do you know that usually Arshavin does the same when he kicks the goal?

MARIA KIRILENKO: Yeah, that’s true. That’s what Kuznetsova just told me. Because she thinking that I was watching Arshavin before the match.

But that’s not it. I said, No, I didn’t watch.

Is Kuznetsova an Arsenal fan? Does she love Arshavin as much as I do? Maybe we should be friends.

And to finish this off. How did that feel, Kiri?

59316400 59316546

Yup, thought so. Get it! She will now play Austrian Yvonne Meusburger that defeated Swiss Timea Bacsinszky in the first round.

Happy new year indeed!

I hope everyone here has had terrific New Year’s Eves and that your livers are back at functioning. Now, the TENNIS YEAR is upon us. We must start the year with some Rafa Nadal otherwise this isn’t my blog.

TENNIS-MEN/ TENNIS-MEN/

In Abu Dhabi, Rafa defeated devil personified, Robin Soderling, 7-6 7-5 to cling that shiny trophy you see above.

And in Thailand, Maria Sharapova defeated Venus Williams in an exhibition (GASP!) 6-3 6-4. It’s the year of UNEXPECTED EXHO RESULTS so far. (Let’s ignore the fact it’s the second day of the year — shhh!)

Maria Sharapova and has a new beard beau, Lakers’ player, Sasha Vujacic.

Their “ship name” is, apparently, Mashasha. I want to marry whoever came up with that. Mashashashashasha — I could go on forever.

Camilla will forever be my fave WAG though. Adorable and stylish.

Look, Masha, I’ve found you a friend!

(why on earth did she put that picture up of herself up?)

From Wicky‘s blog:

I’ve been reading Twilight – I got the first one and finished in like two days, then it took me two or three days to get through the second one, and now I’m about halfway through the third one. I guess in another day or two it’ll be finished :) I haven’t seen the movie though. That’s the first thing on my list when I get back home!

Go call Sharapova to discuss some fantastic literature now.

And from something I’d call “stuff I’d rather not know”:

Picture 4Just…. *cringes*

Dina was the only one that answered that correctly by saying “pop music”. Kuddos, number one.

P.S. Why do I have the feeling “Nicole, Australia” is reader of mine?

Fierce Tennis, you say?

Question: What is this awesome piece of the interwebs?

Answer: I have tried and failed several times to keep blogs up. Why? Because I don’t like doing serious journalism unless there’s money showing up in my bank account — and there wasn’t. This blog will have no interest in being impartial or, you know, actually talking about the sport (ok, maybe from time to time). There are tons of other blogs (and news websites) that do this job pretty well already. Here we will discuss the shallow part: the outfits, the gossip, the outrages and who Fernando Verdasco is currently dating.
