Ula is back! (I rejoice. No one else cares.)

Here on Fierce Tennis, we (me, myself and I) love Urszula Radwanska. Actually, we don’t have many reasons to love her. Except she’s Aga‘s adorable little sister. And she has the same calming winning attitude on court as Victoria Azarenka. And she seems to be as smitten by Caroline Wozniacki as we are. Ok, so maybe we do have a lot of reasons to love her. And we’re really, really excited she’s back.

Ula had a spine injury earlier this year, making her miss great part of her 2010 season. But she was seen practising in Stanford with Aga and she’s scheduled to play qualies in San Diego. She’s also going straight into the U.S. Open main draw thanks to her Special Rankings. Summing up: yay Ula!

To celebrate, a few pictures of Ula and Caro dressed as pandas on the China Great Wall. (That’s a sentence I’ve never thought I’d write.) Special appearance by Daddy Wozniacki.

Last, but not least:

Nom om om panda brainzzz.

Old picture from Doha but I just had to. Look at her smile. Oh, Rads, never change, okay?

NOM OM OM. From Doha’s players’ party. Caro enjoying the chocolate fondue and, apparently, not realizing there’s plenty for all of them. Gotta love how Ula was there even if she isn’t even ranked inside the top 60. Girl has no shame — does anything for a free meal.

If I was the chairman of the WTA, I’d think something was wrong. Hell, I’d know something was wrong. It’s bad enough that they have to use a second alternate in a 8-player tournament. But having another player cry on court, after the whole Caro drama? It’s terrible.  This is sport, not a hospital. We shouldn’t have this many girls taped up, limping around while trying to hit yellow balls. It’s not entertaining to watch.

Vika today had everything to make her first YEC semifinals ever. She was up 6-4 5-2 against Aga. She failed. She had back and leg problems. We were forced to see another play tear up. I was not amused. My heart was broken.

With this defeat, the players to through in the White Group (aka The “omg we’re dying dyiiiiinnnng” Group) are JJ (I know, wtf) and Caro. I will post the cute moments of Caro and Ula in the stands when someone puts the videos up. Caro and her dad Piotr dancing to Beyoncé‘s “Single Ladies” and Caro’s choreography to “I Will Survive” (will you really?) as Ula watches her on the screen and laughs. Cuteness. (That was before Vika started sobbing btw.)

And since we’re on the subject of Danish Cutie, Danish news websites sure seem to know where their priorities lie.

Nice layout thur.

I’ll finish this post with a picture that should feel like a big warm hug to cheer up all the Vika fans here. And I know there are a lot.

Today’s OOP + last day of RR

TENNIS-CHINA/ TENNIS-WOMEN/CHAMPIONSHIPS

Centre Court (from 17.00hrs)

  1. Caroline Wozniacki vs. Jelena Jankovic
  2. Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Elena Dementieva
  3. Agnieszka Radwanska vs. Victoria Azarenka

Aga Radwanska will be playing her first (and only) match in the tournament by replacing Bepa Zvonareva, that pulled out due to an ankle injury (oh, sure — I’ll pretend to believe that).

How we are standing right now:

I wish I could explain the possible outcomes. Instead, I’ll recommend everyone that needs some understanding of Round Robin, go read this thread at Tennis Forum that has all the scenarios. I’ll be here remembering why I’m a member of this group on Facebook.

Can’t read my poker face

While Bepa was bleeding to death, spectators Aga Radwanska and Ula Radwanska decided to distract themselves. Because, really, who wants to see a poor woman suffer? I sure don’t. I’d rather dance to Lady Gaga. And it seems like the Rads thought the exact same thing.

I say the resemblance is uncanny. Watch the video here.

One down.

Êóáîê Êðåìëÿ-2009 Êóáîê Êðåìëÿ-2009

We started Kremlin Cup with three players fighting for the last spot at the year end championships (YEC) in Doha: Vera Zvonareva, Jelena Jankovic and Agnieszka Radwanska. Today, Russian Maria Kirilenko already took out one of the girls from the competition, poor baby Aga, with a double 6-3.

Êóáîê Êðåìëÿ-2009

It’s the end of the season. Most of the players are exhausted. If not physically, then mentally. Aga had her leg and wrist taped up. Last week, there was her shoulder too. Even if she is/was badly injured, the last thing I’m going to do is take out Maria’s credit. It’s the second time in a row she defeats the Polish girl. The last one was in this year’s U.S. Open second round. With this win, it’s the first Maria makes the second round in her home tournament. See how I’m positive about one of my favourite not qualifying for Doha? Envy my graciousness.

Here below, we have a Maria interview in Russian for the website Championat. Being obviously fluent in the language, this is how much I managed to understand (reading from the story’s title): “I’m not Kournikova”, she said. Well, Maria, aren’t we glad we settled that?

Fierce Tennis, you say?

Question: What is this awesome piece of the interwebs?

Answer: I have tried and failed several times to keep blogs up. Why? Because I don’t like doing serious journalism unless there’s money showing up in my bank account — and there wasn’t. This blog will have no interest in being impartial or, you know, actually talking about the sport (ok, maybe from time to time). There are tons of other blogs (and news websites) that do this job pretty well already. Here we will discuss the shallow part: the outfits, the gossip, the outrages and who Fernando Verdasco is currently dating.
